Town Hall Meeting on Philadelphia's Childbirth Crisis
Join childbearing families, nurses, doctors, and elected officials to explore the city’s childbirth crisis at a Northeast Philadelphia Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church - 3101 Tyson Avenue, Philadelphia. Zack Stalberg, former Daily News Editor and President/CEO of the Committee of Seventy, will moderate the event. Come learn about the childbirth crisis and help create a plan to ensure that Philadelphia’s families have access to safe and affordable OB care.

On July 1, 2007 state funding for life saving cervical cancer screening and follow up treatment for uninsured women ages 18 to 39 was cut. CARE Act Needs Your Support
The PA State House is expected to vote on House Bill 288 – The CARE Act (Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies Act) soon! The bill would require Pennsylvania hospitals to provide access to and information about emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy as a result of the rape and have the opportunity to consult with a sexual assault counselor no matter which hospital in PA they go to or are brought to after being assaulted. Please contact your legislator to tell them that you want this bill passed without delay and without amendments. Find your legislator here (Use Find Members box in upper right corner.)

Children’s Aid Society of Pennsylvania Has Joined COA’s Community of Excellence
Celebrating 125 years of service to children and families, Children’s Aid Society of PA was accredited in August 2007, by the Council on Accreditation (COA), an independent not-for-profit accrediting body whose mission is to “promote best practice standards; champion quality services for children, youth and families; and advocate for the value of accreditation.” This national recognition assures to all stakeholders – children and families, foundations, donors, funders, colleagues and community members – that CAS of PA has achieved excellence in service delivery and ethical, effective organizational operations. CAS of PA has joined COA’s Community of Excellence.
