US House Passes Fair Pay Act
The Supreme Court ruled on May 29 in a 5-4 decision in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. that workers do not have the right to sue for pay discrimination if they don't file a claim within 180 days from the date the decision on their pay is made and communicated to them. In response to the ruling, the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007, which would specify that the statute of limitations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 runs from the date of each paycheck that is affected by a discriminatory decision, was passed by the US House of Representatives on Tuesday. Companion legislation in the Senate was introduced last week and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Education, Labor, and Pensions. President Bush has vowed to veto the legislation.
Help WOMEN'S WAY Meet The Glickstein Challenge
Linda and David Glickstein, two dedicated WOMEN’S WAY advocates, have issued a challenge to WOMEN’S WAY in honor of its 30th Anniversary. If we raise $30,000 from 30 new or lapsed donors who each make a pledge of at least $1,000, they will match these gifts up to a total of $30,000. That means $60,000 would be raised to help WOMEN’S WAY and its grantees meet their critical missions. We only have 10 gifts left to meet our goal! More Info
